2015 Library Research Award Winners Announced

EKU Libraries presented the second Library Research Award for Undergraduates at the 2015 University Scholars Assembly. The Award, made possible by the Friends of EKU Libraries, recognizes students whose research makes expert and creative use of library services, resources, and collections to produce a scholarly or creative work. 

Brooke King won the 2015 Library Research Award for Undergraduates $800 first place prize for her research submission, "Mothers’ Decisions to Leave Abusive Intimate Partners: A Qualitative Meta-Summary."  She is from Tipp City, Ohio and is the daughter of Clifford and Angela Bowerman and wife of Adam King. Brooke is majoring in Occupational Science and will graduate this spring.  She is part of the EKU Honors Program, GURUS, Student Success Advisory Board, and CRU.  Brooke plans to pursue a master's degree in Occupational Therapy at EKU and become an occupational therapist and advocate for improved nursing home care.

Catherine Gerteisen won the 2015 Library Research Award for Undergraduates $500 second place prize for her research submission, “Speech-Language Pathologist Awareness and Integration of Disability Rights Issues.”  She is from Owensboro, KY and is the daughter of Sam and Lisa Gerteisen.  Catherine is majoring in Communication Disorders and will graduate this spring.  She is a member of the National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association, President of EKU Best Buddies, and Spiritual Life Committee Chair for the Catholic Campus Ministry of St. Mark.  Catherine plans to pursue a master’s degree in Communication Disorders at EKU and become a speech-language pathologist working with individuals with disabilities.
