Student Artwork Exhibit and People's Choice Award Competition

Third Floor (exhibit)
Thank you to all the student artists who entered our 2019 Student Art Exhibit. Art that has been accepted into this year's exhibit is now on display on the Main Library's third floor. Stop by and see it in person, then visit EKU Libraries on Facebook to vote for your favorite piece before March 29, 2019. The winner of the Facebook competition will be named People's Choice Award winner. A Library Committee will select first, second, and third place winners. The People's Choice Award winner and first place winner will have their art featured on limited-edition posters, which will be framed and placed on permanent display in the Main Library.

Speaking from the Margins: EKU's Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community 

5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Allen Auditorium 108
Join us for a panel presentation featuring Brittney Caldwell, Jemima Chong, and Alexio Mosher, three students who are Deaf or hard of hearing. You'll learn about their journeys and experiences at Eastern Kentucky University. The panel will be moderated by Laura Edwards, EKU Librarian.  Stay at the Library after the presentation for a screening of the film A Quiet Place. Be sure to also check out our Deaf History Month display in the Grand Reading Room. Co-sponsored by the Noel Studio for Academic Creativity, EKU IT Geeks, and EKU Student Success Center.

A Quiet Place Movie Event

6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Classroom 204D
After the Speaking from the Margins: EKU's Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community panel presentation, bring your blanket or pillow and find a comfortable spot in Classroom 204D to watch A Quiet Place, the 2018 thriller/drama starring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. We'll provide popcorn, cookies, and beverages.

Hot Dog, I Love EKU Libraries!

We will serve you free hot dogs and beverages in celebration of National Library Week. Free t-shirts will be provided by Coca-Cola. While you're here, tell us what you love about EKU Libraries and also enter to win a fully-stocked study room for you and your friends during Dead Week.

Celebrate EKU scholars with the 18th annual University Scholars Assembly. The event will honor College and University academic awards recipients, the Library Research Award for Undergraduates recipients, Honors Scholars, Phi Kappa Phi initiates, and student participants in Posters-at-the-Capitol and the Undergraduate Presentation Showcase.

Teaching & Learning Innovation Series: Partner with a Librarian

In this interactive session, librarians will discuss possibilities, offerings, and opportunities for deep, meaningful, creative collaboration with EKU Libraries in integrating information literacy/research skills in your courses. Participants will explore ways to intentionally partner with librarians for student success in information literacy. In addition, participants will learn about other ways that EKU Libraries supports you and your students.

Library Student Art Exhibit Submission Deadline
Calling all student artists! You are invited to submit your original artwork to the annual Library Student Art Exhibit. Accepted pieces will be on display in the Main Library during the month of March and included in the People's Choice Awards competition on our Facebook page. First, second, and third place awards will also be available and will be chosen by a Library committee. The winners of the People's Choice Award and first-place award will have their art featured on limited edition posters available to students. To submit your artwork for consideration, please submit an application (tinyurl.com/2019LibraryArtExhibit) by Friday, February 22. Applicants will also be entered to win access to a study room stocked with pizza, snacks, and more during dead week.

Library Research Award Submission Deadline
Enter your research project in the 2019 Library Research Award for Undergraduates competition for your chance to win a cash prize. Made possible by the Friends of EKU Libraries, this award recognizes and awards undergraduate students whose research makes expert and creative use of the services, resources, and collections of EKU Libraries to produce a scholarly or creative work. A total of $1,600 will be awarded to three winning students. Visit Encompass to apply before the Monday, March 18 deadline.
