Kentucky Women: Their Lives and Times

Dr. Tom Appleton, EKU Professor of History will discuss his recent publication, Kentucky Women: Their Lives and Times (co-edited with Melissa A. McEuen). Kentucky Monthly called the book, "[A]n engaging, intriguing foray into Kentucky's feminine past. Meticulously sourced and short on romanticism, Kentucky Women depicts life as it was for those coming of age in a time where fighting for justice, compassion or one's survival was an inherent part of the female experience."

Join the Friends of EKU Libraries and EKU International Alumni Board for an evening with Jeff Newton, EKU Class of 1997. Newton was inducted into the Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 2011 and COMM Distinguished Alumni in 2009. He is senior producer of VICE on HBO and was associate producer of 60 Minutes; he is a two-time Emmy winner; has received Overseas Press Club Honors, the Edward R. Murrow Award, and the Alfred I. duPont Award.

Disability, The City, and Aesthetics Art Exhibition

Daily, Main Library South Lobby
In January 2016, Sidewalk University investigated disability and the arts with New York City as the classroom. EKU Sidewalk University is a week long, site-specific course with rotating cities and topics. It is an experiential, reflective, and proactive immersion course that focuses on relevant topics in a different city annually. New York, the 2016 destination, is synonymous with the arts, offering an ideal landscape for concentrated investigation into disability, art and aesthetics. New York allowed students to observe first hand how art can empower the disabled, but moreover, how the disabled can empower art.

Women of Uzbekistan: Photography Exhibition

Documents Area (third floor)
Enjoy a selection of photographs taken from the Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center (IAUNRC) at Indiana University. The photographs are the work of Zilola Saidova, an alumna of Indiana University’s School of Journalism, and her colleague, Shavkat Boltayev. They represent many aspects of everyday life in the former Soviet republic. A special opening reception will take place Tuesday, November 1 from 4:00-5:30PM in the Documents Area of the Main Library. Free and open to the public, the exhibit is sponsored by EKU Department of History, Asian Studies, Women & Gender Studies, and EKU Libraries.
